Val-des-Monts

Val-des-Monts is a municipality in Quebec, Canada, located in the Collines-de-l'Outaouais Regional County Municipality (RCM) in the Outaouais administrative region, north of Gatineau. It is part of the National Capital Region. It was created in 1975 by the merger of the municipalities of Perkins, Wakefield East (including the village of Saint-Pierre-de-Wakefield), and Portland West (including the village of Poltimore). The permanent population of Val-des-Monts was approximately 12,000 in 2018, but the municipality's population nearly doubles during the summer season due to the arrival of vacationers residing in cottages.

The name "Val-des-Monts" refers to the fact that the municipality's territory includes several valleys and mountains.

The municipality of Val-des-Monts is located approximately 10 kilometers north of Gatineau and 220 km west of Montreal. It is part of the Collines-de-l'Outaouais Regional County Municipality (RCM) in the Outaouais administrative region. More broadly, it is part of the National Capital Region, which includes Ottawa and Gatineau, as well as a few neighboring municipalities.

The territory of Val-des-Monts is primarily composed of lakes, farmland, and forests. The largest lakes are McGregor, Grand, Écluse, and Newcombe lakes.
